# Peace: where to start, and why this passage

John 14:27 is the passage for peace. You get the verses in full, the part of the story they sit inside, and a question to sit with. It takes about a minute, and you can have it now.

Given, not summoned

Jesus says this a few hours before he is arrested, to people who are about to lose everything. He does not tell them to calm down. He says the peace is his and that he is handing it over.

John 14 is part of one long conversation on the last evening, after the meal and before the arrest. The room is frightened and Jesus keeps saying so out loud. The verse sits between a promise that they will not be left on their own and a warning that the world is about to close in, which is why it does not read as a promise that nothing bad will happen.

Read it in full, with the verses on either side, on the [John 14:27 page](https://biblenudge.com/context/john-14-27).

If this is not quite it

Say what is going on in your own words instead.

You do not have to decide which heading you belong under. Type a sentence about what happened and it will find the closest of the thirteen. If nothing sits close, it says so.

The [library](https://biblenudge.com/resources) lists all thirteen with a description of each, because situations get filed under words people would not always guess.

If what you are carrying is heavier than a page can hold, this is not the place for it. Nobody is reading what you type into this site.
