# Jeremiah 29:11

World English Bible

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says Yahweh, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.”

## What was happening around this

Yahweh speaks through a letter Jeremiah sends to captives carried from Jerusalem to Babylon. The verse immediately before it says the promise follows seventy years in Babylon, which is the part the verse is usually quoted without.

Where this comes up

- [What not to say to someone grieving](https://biblenudge.com/blog/what-not-to-say-to-someone-grieving)

The phrases bereaved people say landed worst, with something to send instead beside each one, and why the sentences that explain a death are the hardest.

- [Waiting on God's timing when the wait has gone on for years](https://biblenudge.com/blog/waiting-on-gods-timing)

A psalm that asks how long four times and does not answer it, for people waiting on a pregnancy, a job or a visa, and the sayings that make it worse.
